Attend Meeting on Plans for Eastern Market Plaza Park

DGS has scheduled the next Eastern Market Metro Plaza (EMMP) Park Community meeting on Wednesday, April 3. The meeting takes place from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the Eastern Market North Hall (Seventh Street and North Carolina Avenue SE). All are welcome to attend.

DGS is expected to present revisions to the plans after presenting designs March 7 to the Commission on Fine Arts (CFA), the federal agency charged with reviewing design and architectural development in designated areas of the District. CFA approval of plans is required to move forward with construction.

CFA had questions and comments about the plans as presented March 7, but it is not yet clear if that will affect the timeline.

The Advisory Neighborhood Commission (ANC) 6B Livable Community Task Force (LCTF) held two meetings to focus discussion around neighborhood desires and concerns for each of the two largest parcels of the project. Those are Parcel 4, the area around the Eastern Market Metro Park, and Parcel 1, around the George Didden III holiday tree. LCTF Chair Steve Holtzman (6B05) said that he intended to share that with the EMMP Advisory Team.

The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) is also considering changes in the area, issuing a Notice of Intent to change the flow of traffic on D Street SE from one-was eastbound to one-way westbound. That decision rests with DDOT rather than DGS, although it will affect the project.

Survey results, presentations and the most recent EMMP concept drawings are available  on the ANC 6B website.
