At last, someone is moving into a long-vacant Barracks Row space: Extreme Pizza. Look for it sometime in February at 520 Eighth St. SE, where Orchid and before that–Senart’s—used to be. (The word “PIZZA” is emblazoned alongside the vintage Senart’s/Coca Cola sign on the brick building.)
Part of a nationwide chain, Extreme Pizza will other nearby pizza eateries including Matchbox, &Pizza and Boli’s, all across the street.
In keeping with the group’s sports theme, décor will feature Washington teams including the Nationals, Wizards, Mystics and Capitals.
According to Wikipedia, Extreme Pizza was founded in San Francisco in 1994 and has more than 30 stateside locations. Besides pizza (thegluten free variety is available), the new Extreme Pizza will offer calzones, salads, subs, wings and desserts.
