Two Shootings in Two Days on 1400 Block Penn Ave

Police are investigating two shootings that happened over a two-day span on the 1400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue SE.

On Sunday, Jan. 14, around 3 p.m. gunshots were reportedly fired from a silver vehicle. The bullets struck windows at Trusty’s Full Serve (1420 Pennsylvania Ave. SE) and Manny and Olga’s (1430 Pennsylvania Ave. SE). No one was reported injured. Police said they canvassed the area for either victims or suspects but neither were found

Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner (ANC) for the area Matt LaFortune wrote in an email to consituents that he was “incredibly relieved that no-one was injured,” but encouraged residents to provide information to MPD, adding, “I want to make sure that these situations continue to be taken seriously by our public safety leaders.”

There was gunfire in the area less than two days later. Early in the morning of Tuesday, Jan. 16, police went to the area of The Roost (1401 Pennsylvania Ave. SE). They were respoding to a CIC ShotSpotter detection of gunshots shortly after 4 a.m..

When they got there, officers canvassed for any victims, suspects or evidence. They found eight casings scattered on the sidewalk and street. Two nearby vehicles that suffered damage as a result of gunfire. The case is being investigated as both Unlawful Discharge of a Firearm and Destruction of Property.
