Escape to the West Virginia mountains this fall for long, cozy weekends, hot chocolate, festivals, ice skating and more in Hardy County. If you’re looking for a respite from a busy, high demand work week, the peaceful rolling hills and hollers will not disappoint. Especially as the leaves begin to turn, come out for hometown hospitality and family friendly recreation!

From Oct. 11 to 13, we’ve got Wardensville’s annual Fall Festival, which includes over 100 vendors, a car show, parade, live music and more throughout town. Of course, year round you can find incredible meals at places like Mack’s Bingo Kitchen and Drifter’s Cafe, peruse the vibrant independent bookstore Wordplay, or take in a glassblowing demo at Dakota Glass Works. It’s amazing how much is packed into this tiny town!

In Moorefield, there will be ice skating at the town park starting Thanksgiving weekend. Hours are: Fridays 6pm-10pm, Saturdays 2pm-10pm and Sundays 2pm-6pm and entrance is free! Concessions are also available for purchase. Perfect feel-good activity for the whole family. Plus, you can find a diverse range of dining options in town. Pop in to Pupia Emerita for authentic Honduran and El Salvadorian cuisine or maybe give the crab soup from O’Neill’s a taste. There’s something for everyone in Hardy County!
All seasons you can hike the trails at Lost River State Park and throughout the George Washington National Forest. In addition, Hidden Trails Stables offers horseback riding on weekends through the end of October. But if simply staying in a cozy cabin and reading a book by a crackling fire is more your speed, we’ve got you there too! For a memorable lunch or dinner, enjoy a wood-fired pizza at Lost+Found Pizza and Provisions or order one to take back to your cabin.
