A pedestrin died after a vehicle hit her as she crossed the street in a Southwest crosswalk.
On Wednesday, April 16, around 3:30 p.m., police received reports of a crash at the intersection of Sixth and M Streets SW. Police found an adult female pedestrian unconscious and not breathing. She had been struck by the driver of a vehicle.
DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services (DC FEMS) performed lifesaving measures, but the pedestrian was pronounced dead on the scene.
The decedent has been identified as 74-year-old Kathy Turner, of Southwest, DC.
Police said a preliminary investigation indicated that the driver was turning into the eastbound lanes of M Street SW, when they struck the pedestrian. Turner was walking in the intersection inside of a marked crosswalk. She was caught under the vehicle.
The driver remained on the scene and Major Crash Detectives are investigating.
