Dog Stolen from Boat Reunited With Owner

Pepper is home! The puppy, dog stolen off a boat in Southeast ten days ago, has been recovered. But Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) detectives continue to search for the suspect in the dog’s theft.

Around 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, police were called after a boat was broken into as it was docked near 100 Potomac Avenue SE. “Pepper”, a 3-month-old black Cane Corso, was taken.

Following the theft, MPD published images of Pepper. A little more than a week later, on  Saturday, Oct. 19, a good Samaritan returned Pepper to his owner. He had purchased the dog from an online ad and then, discovered the dog was stolen.

Officers say Pepper is in good condition.

MPD investigating this case met with Pepper and his owner. Their reunion is pictured above.

Pepper’s abduction remains under investigation and detectives continue to pursue leads on the suspect. Anyone who knowledge of this incident should take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your photo, video or tip to the Department’s Text Tip Line at 50411.  MPD currently offers a reward of up to $1,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for a crime committed in the District of Columbia.
