Carjackers Crash Into Arrest At I and 11th Streets NE

The intersection of 11th and I (eye) Streets NE was closed late Friday afternoon after an epic crash involving a District government vehicle.

Police say that crime started at approximately 12:29 p.m. the same day, when Fifth District officers were called to the 300 block of N Street NE after an armed carjacking. Officers learned that the victim was carjacked by a suspect armed with a knife. After taking the victim’s vehicle, the suspect fled the scene.

That vehicle was involved in the crash with a District government van with a bucket lift attached. It appeared a silver Audi sedan collided with the van on 11th Street NE northbound before driving up on the curb of I Street to the east of the intersection.

Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) officers were on-scene quickly and recovered the carjacked vehicle. An arrest was made. Officers did not provide additional detail.

MPD officers did not report any injuries on initial inquiry. This story is updating.

Anyone who has knowledge of this incident should take no action but call police at (202) 727-9099 or text your anonymous tips, photos or videos to the Department’s Text Tip Line at 50411.

MPD currently offers a reward of up to $1,000 to anyone who provides information that leads to the arrest and indictment of the person or persons responsible for a crime committed in the District of Columbia.
